Mexican condo rentals in the best location at El Taj in Playa del Carmen: Haute Travel

Following up on my recent trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, after my stay at the secluded Banyon Tree, I moved with my group to a 4 bedroom, 5 bath suite at the El Taj in bustling Playa del Carmen.  This is a really great hotel for those looking for the following criteria:

  1. Condos with all the amenities
  2. Excellent location right by the beach, with 2 fantastic pools
  3. Best location in playa, right by 5th Ave and all the best attractions

I had stayed in this part of Playa before, and was so happy to find the El Taj.  It’s part of the Condo Hotels chain in playa, which give you huge spaces, fit for any party.  I also booked way in advance, and got an additional winter discount on top of the pretty great rates to start with.

The hotel helped us arrange a private chef (pretty affordable) for one evening, as well as all our transportation in and around Playa.  We also had enough space to host a yoga instructor and have our own private class.  Very cool indeed.

The location was key for us, as we were able to explore the local area on foot, and walk to great restaurants, shops and nightclubs.  The hotel also arranged free breakfast on the beach at the Indigo Beach Club, which was fresh and delicious, with amazing views. I definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a trip to Playa del Carmen in the near future, it gets you out of the big resorts, but still gets great amenities and the best location.

A true Mexican escape at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba: Haute Travel

Playa del Carmen, Mexico has the best of many worlds, with amazing beaches, plenty of great restaurants and shops, and the nightlife many crave in the proximity of Cancun.  I was recently in the area and stayed at two great and very different hotels, and had a chance to explore the area (a second time).

Situated off the path are several big box resorts, like the Banyon Tree Mayakoba, my first spot.  This was a serene escape, in a lush jungle-like section of the area.  It is located in a mangrove inlet with 2 other properties, and is definitely off-the-beaten-path.  The expansive area is connected by boat or golf cart, or you can venture out and enjoy nature on your own two feet.  We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa which was fitted with a private pool, and lovely furnishings.

My time at the Banyon Tree was utterly relaxing and healthful, with morning gym time at the fitness center or a short nature walk, followed by the best breakfast buffet I have seen.  We would then head to one of the various pools, or the beach club called Sands, where we soaked in some sun and enjoyed some libations.  We ended the evenings with dinners at the resorts two restaurants, Saffron (authentic Thai) and Tamarind (international cuisine).  The meals were delicious and fresh (and sharable), and the drinks like the spa cocktail (cucumber martini) and margaritas were favorites of the group.

This was a truly fabulous vacation destination, with only a few things we were left wanting:  wishing the private pool was heated, and missing that amazing Cancun beach view.

All in all though, the service and staff along with the overall experience were excellent and made you feel special and utterly private.
